What is Depression?
Depression is feeling intense sadness that lasts for several days, weeks, or months that keeps a person from functioning properly. When people are depressed they may also feel helpless, hopeless, and worthless. Depression can be triggered by stress, hormonal changes, genetics, emotional setbacks, tragedies, or gender.
Depression is nothing to be ashamed about. The sooner you recognize that you have depression, the faster you can overcome it.
Symptoms of Depression
The following are common symptoms of depression. However, nobody experiences depression the same or has the same symptoms:
Difficulty concentrating or making decisions
Fatigue or decreased energy
Feeling of guilt, worthlessness, helplessness
Feeling sad, anxious, or empty
Loss in interest in activities you once enjoyed
Loss of pleasure in life
Persistent aches and pains that are not fixed with treatment
Severe weight gain or loss
Thoughts of suicide/attempting to commit suicide
